Net Zero Economy​

GSEM has created a guide roadmap to help local governments, businesses and households reach net-zero emissions while while achieving substantial cost-savings.

The Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions found that there are solutions with the potential to reduce emissions in virtually all sectors to zero and save businesses and households money.

The Roadmap is produced by the Greater South East Melbourne (GSEM) group and South East Councils Climate Change Alliance (SECCCA) and is available as a free download.

The Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions found that there are solutions with the potential to reduce emissions in virtually all sectors to zero and save businesses and households money.

Greater South East Melbourne spokesperson Knox Mayor Cr Jude Dwight said: “The Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions is a practical document that includes a list of available opportunities, implementation timelines, barriers to implementation and how councils and other organisations can influence positive change.

“It contains invaluable advice on immediately available and cost-effective opportunities for the residential, commercial, industrial, transport, waste and agriculture sectors.

“The Roadmap found that many climate change solutions and responses create multiple benefits beyond reducing climate change threats.

“These benefits include:

·       reducing household and business costs

·       improving the quality and resilience of the built environment and the power system

·       reducing exposure to fossil-fuel price cycles and unpredictable energy costs

·       reducing noise and air pollution associated with transport and power generation

“The report found that there are solutions with the potential in coming years to reduce emissions in virtually all sectors to zero and save businesses and households money.”
