SEM board member Bruce Billson opened the Digital Direction Day in Frankston. Through the hard work of businesses and residents, the south east has become the economic powerhouse of Melbourne. Assisting businesses in preparing for the future is key to ensuring this continues. The event, in June 2018, was hosted by Frankston City Council, City of Kingston and Mornington Peninsula Shire. The purpose of the event was to provide attendees with a 'heads up' about digital technology being used now and moving into the future, to help businesses succeed in today's fast-changing world. Bruce Billson opened the day with a few interesting statistics: Small and medium-sized enterprises that are connected digitally are:

  • 50% more likely yo be growing revenue

  • 60% more income per employee

  • 8x more likely to be creating new jobs

  • 7x more likely to be exporting

  • 14x more likely to be innovating
